[00:00:00] Alex Willis: Hey. Hey my friends. Welcome back to No Board here with Alex Wood, the number one go-to source for leadership development in the construction industry. And hey, I want you to know you've just tuned into the level where we're really unpacking this thing called the have it All lifestyle. How do you have it all, man?
[00:00:24] Alex Willis: How do you have it all? I am passionate about life, passionate about. People being successful in every part of their life, not just their professional life. Right? So, so this whole episode we're just talking about personal life. Personal life, and what does that look like, so that you can really begin to be happy in every area of your life now.
[00:00:43] Alex Willis: And in the first segment we talked about the importance of measuring where you currently are, right? And we gave some show notes in that segment, a tool, the Will of Life. In which you can begin to analyze and evaluate and, and really begin to score or rate yourself in several key areas to see where you are right now.
[00:01:02] Alex Willis: Once you've done that, the the big question is, what the hell do you do now? Right? And here's what you do. You begin to think about what is it that you, right, based off where you currently are, what do you want? What, what do you want? What do you want? And so most people have never identified that. And so therefore, they're walking around aimlessly in life.
[00:01:22] Alex Willis: Going nowhere because they have no target. I did this crazy experiment with kids. I went to a school and I knew my money was safe on this, so, so I bet a thousand dollars. I told the kids, I said, Hey listen, I'll give anyone in here a thousand dollars if you can go and hit my target. I. Right now. Hear me out.
[00:01:41] Alex Willis: I told 'em they have 30 seconds. They hit the target a thousand dollars to them, to the winner who hits the target and listen, my friends, they went nuts. They lost their damn mind. I mean, yeah. A thousand dollars. Yeah. Well, man, look, so they start running all around the classroom, touching everything, right?
[00:02:01] Alex Willis: Boom. What about this Mr. La? Hey, is it this, this, and this and this and that? Now understand, I'm smiling the whole time because I'm like, dude, my money is so safe right now. Partly because no one knew what the target was. No one even asked, Hey, what's the target, Mr. Alex? Right? They took off aimlessly, hitting, touching, burning, a lot of energy and time, never getting the ultimate goal.
[00:02:30] Alex Willis: Ultimately never getting a thousand dollars. So I asked the question when we finally brought all the kids back in. I'm like, Hey, what went wrong there? And one dude was like, we didn't know what a damn target was. I'm like, yeah, but think about this my friend. How often do we do that in life? Or how often do we give bullshit target like, Hey, I just wanna be happy.
[00:02:54] Alex Willis: What the hell is happy? How does that look? Or, Hey, I just wanna be financially well off. What does that look like, right? I, I have several friends in my life, one in particular that I'm thinking about right now, who's extremely rich. I mean, this dude is loaded, right, loaded, loaded, loaded. Has his own island.
[00:03:13] Alex Willis: Kind of loaded like that. Kind of loaded. Now, here's the deal. If you ask him, is he rich and is he well on? Like, is he financially just separate life? He'd say, no, no, no, no, no. Now, now, now, now, Elon Mo. Now he's rich. Now he's set for life, right? So, so here's what I need you to understand. Unless you have clear goals and know exactly where you want to go, it's always gonna be a moving target.
[00:03:42] Alex Willis: Always gonna be a moving target with your kids. Always gonna be a moving target with your partner, spouse, or significant other. Always gonna be a moving target with your finances because you have no clear vision of where you want to go. So, You need to really begin to slow down and say, what do I want?
[00:03:57] Alex Willis: Where in the hell do I want to go? Now there's a great resource to help you with this, my friends, and understand I didn't write this shit. I just research it and I apply it to my life like another. There's a great book called The 12 Week Year. Oh man, great book. The 12 week year will change your life. Now, the 12 week year really challenges you to begin to think about what is it that you want.
[00:04:22] Alex Willis: It begins to ask you those tough questions about your family time, about home life, about where you live, about your kids, and how you have a, what the relationship is with them, about your spouse, partner, significant other. What does that look like? What kind of car do you want to drive? What do you need with the bank account?
[00:04:40] Alex Willis: How do you wanna retire? I mean, question after question. It is a lot of work, but, but it really begins to fine tune this vision. Of what you want life to look like. Now, the second thing that this book does, the 12 week years, it really begins to dive in even deeper to talk about the power of visualization.
[00:04:59] Alex Willis: Ah, this is crazy. Visualization is everything, my friends. It it's you visualizing you've seen yourself there. Now. Now here's the crazy part. It's not from this book, but it from another book, I can't remember book right now talks about. It gives this crazy principle that anything that comes into existence had to be created here first.
[00:05:26] Alex Willis: So think about that. So, so it says, Hey, in order for something to happen in life, tangibly to come forth in life, it has to first be initiated in the brain. So you can actually see it twice. You actually see it twice. You see yourself doing it. And I'm gonna use this, for example, I saw myself playing for the Gators.
[00:05:45] Alex Willis: Before I ever got on the football field, I, I saw it. I, I was able to visualize it and, and it kept me going. I was able to see it. I was dreaming about it, thinking about it all day, every day. Yeah, this is what it looks like. This is what it feels like. And so the same is true with your life. If you can begin to visualize what it actually looks like, you can begin to line yourself up so that you are starting that process in the route to get to where you need to go.
[00:06:07] Alex Willis: My friends, right now, this brings us to another great concept of this huge thing called why. Why, why most people don't have the have it all lifestyle? Because they don't truly know their why. Think about that. They dunno their why. So, so therefore, when things get difficult, when things get hard, they quit simply because their why isn't strong enough.
[00:06:35] Alex Willis: Right, so, so in our first segment we talked about analyzing your current state. Where are you now in these key areas, right? And you're gonna go from there to start visualizing where you want to go. What the hell does life look like for me? So that I have clear vision, not kind of bumping around. Oops. By chance, hopefully I win the lottery.
[00:06:56] Alex Willis: Hopefully I can roll a seven on the dice. No, no, no. You are purposefully thinking about it. So you can strategically plan where you want to go, what that looks like. You are mapping that out and then you're visualizing that and you're seeing yourself do it right As you begin to do that, my friends, you tie a strong why to it.
[00:07:12] Alex Willis: Why do you want to do it? Well, here's why. Here's why you wanna do it. Because as I said, it's gonna be very, very difficult, very tough. You'll be tired at times, but if you have a strong why, that why can be leveraged for you to keep moving forward. Let me give you a perfect example. I travel a ton for work, a ton for work.
[00:07:29] Alex Willis: Ah, and so most times, When I come home on the weekend, I wanna chill out because I'm never home. Because I'm not home. I wanna chill out, and so therefore, I have to really push myself and lean into my why when it comes to my daughter. Why? Because, well, one thing that I want, I don't just want to have a successful career, a successful business.
[00:07:55] Alex Willis: I want a phenomenal relationship with my daughters when they're in their twenties, thirties, forties, and on. I wanna be like, oh man, where's dad? Let me hang out with dad. I want that kind of relationship with my daughter. So because I want that and that's my strong why, I understand that I have to begin to pour into that today.
[00:08:13] Alex Willis: So even though I come off of red eye flights dog tire, I'm willing to show up to school events, show up to practice, show up to talk to 'em, to hang out, simply because my why is strong enough. I have a clear vision. I painted a vision of what I want that relationship to look like right now. I began to map out, and we'll talk about that in the upcoming segment, map out what it looks and what it will take for me to get there to that vision right now.
[00:08:45] Alex Willis: And in between holding all of this shit together is a strong why. Why do you want to do it, Alex? So, when you're tired, when you're frustrated, you can ask yourself why. It's because of this, and usually that will get you up going toward the habit, all lifestyle, right? So here's what I want you to do in this segment.
[00:09:07] Alex Willis: Uh, what I want you to do is as we land the plane of this segment, Now that you've analyzed yourself, you know where you are, I want you to spend some time writing that vision, making it very, very clear. Alright, now hear me out. This is an activity that doesn't happen in 30 minutes, my friend, if it does, it's a small vision.
[00:09:25] Alex Willis: Trust me. Trust me, I, I love hip hop music in the rapper, j Cole said, Hey, listen, when you write your vision down, you actually need to. Stretch it a little bit. So much so that it makes you feel uncomfortable, right? So much so that it actually looks foolish. Why? Because oftentimes we sell ourselves very short with our vision, and we'll talk a little bit more about that later.
[00:09:48] Alex Willis: But we sell ourselves short so we don't hit our goals. Not because we don't, because we can't, but oftentimes we don't hit these major goals because we set the bar too low, right? For ourselves, what it looks like to have this habit, all lifestyle. So I want you to write the vision, right? And then I want you to.
[00:10:03] Alex Willis: Spend some time thinking about your why. Why do you want it? Why, why, why, why, why? In the next segment, we'll talk about how to really begin to use this, the power of one question, one question to really begin to help you have it all to tie these pieces together. So that you can begin to not only have a great professional life, but also a great and phenomenal personal life as well.
[00:10:28] Alex Willis: Stick around my friend. I'll see you in the next segment when we really begin to jump into this one question that for me was a game changer. And pursuing my goals, actually attaining my goals, actually my friend. Making life a life. Hey, I wanna personally thank you for tuning into No Bullshit with Alex Willett's, the number one go-to source for leadership development in the construction industry.
[00:10:53] Alex Willis: And hey, don't forget to hit play on the next segment.
